Bargaining Update – #18

The Union and Employer met on January 17 and 20th.

The Union opened the discussion outlining that in our view, the two sides continue to sit a fair distance apart in pensionable wages and it seems that we are getting close to an impasse.

The Union and Employer then entered into some frank discussions on a potential contract. The Union feels that these discussions were constructive in outlining once again what a fair contract looked like to us and we believe that the Employer does understand our position.

On January 20th the Union did not receive a formal counter offer but the Employer asked if they could take our discussions away to discuss internally. The Union agreed. No further bargaining sessions will be scheduled until the Employer advises us of their position.

Your Bargaining Committee continues to work hard to obtain an acceptable contract from the Employer in these financially difficult times and we hope your Employer has heard us.

Your bargaining committee recommends that members hope for the best but plan for the worst financially. At this point, we await to hear from the employer on if they feel that our members/their employees are worth a fair contract.

Your Union is presently prepared for all situations as we move forward including receiving the full support of the CUPE National Office for any further campaign that your bargaining committee deems necessary.
We will keep you updated as soon as further information is obtained.

In Solidarity,

Your CUPE 1063 Bargaining Committee
