Bargaining Update – #23

On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, your Bargaining Committee presented the employers “Final Offer” to your CUPE 1063 Executive Committee. The offer was reviewed in depth and a recommendation of proceeding with Strike Action was made.

The Executive Committee unanimously voted in favor of strike action in the form of a FULL STRIKE in Winnipeg, Brandon, and Thompson.

The strike will begin following 5 working days’ notice, which we provided to the employer today (Tuesday March 14 to Monday March 20, 2023). Your bargaining committee has advised the employer that we are willing to continue bargaining if they are willing to offer something better.

STRIKE ACTION WILL BEGIN ON TUESDAY MARCH 21, 2023.

A detailed letter will be sent later today from your Strike Committee outlining in more detail what your next steps are.

Your Bargaining Committee does not take this decision lightly and fully understand the sacrifices that we are asking from our members.

As we are now a full 2 years since the expiration of our last contract. We had hoped this employer and senior leadership would understand that you deserve better, especially with the sacrifices you have made over the last 8 years.

In the past, your union and management has been able to negotiate contracts based on a mutual desire to be fair with each other. Unfortunately, this relationship has changed, and we see no other option than to initiate a strike: you deserve better than what management is offering.

If this is the new norm at the WCB then we will ensure that Management, Board of Directors and political overseers fully understand what our members will do to obtain a fair collective agreement.

In Solidarity,
Your CUPE 1063 Bargaining Committee
