CUPE Vice President 1 Nominees

Shawn Trudell

Shawn Trudell

Good day everyone please consider voting for me for position of 1st Vice President of CUPE 1063.

I have been with the WCB since 2005.

Initially I was full of excitement and awe as an Adjudicator, then moving into Case Management for almost 10 years. I am currently a Prevention Consultant with Safe Work Manitoba.

Over the years that positivity and excitement of being a WCB Employee fizzled out and frustration settled in. Not because of my job, but becoming aware of how other members were not being treated fairly, not being informed of their rights and entitlements regarding benefits, or their rights with respect to Safety in the workplace. I also experienced these situations. The list was getting long and I needed to get more involved.

I was very happy to become a Shop Steward and for several years now your Chief Shop Steward. I am also your Worker Co-Chair of your Workplace Health and Safety Committee.

These platforms enable me to raise issues and concerns with respect to your safety and health, advocate for your rights and benefits, and file grievances on your behalf. Some of you who know me may agree I will speak out and share my concerns, but also your concerns.

Our members need a strong Union Executive to advocate for your rights, benefits and wages. Our members need a local that will continue to advocate for more employment opportunities from within.

If you don’t know me, know that I will listen & support you. I want to help make this a better workplace. I want to help make CUPE 1063 a better local for you.

I will take your concerns to the employer and address them with confidence, professionalism and tact.

Thank you for this opportunity.

Dan Cintrao

Hello, I’m Dan Cintrao, and I’m asking for your support as I run for 1st Vice President of CUPE 1063.

I’ve been with the WCB since 2001, currently working as a Supervisor in the Short Term Claims department.

My journey with the union began in 2019, when I became a Shop Steward as a way to give back the support I received from our local.

In 2022, I was honored to serve as Chief Shop Steward and I am currently an Executive Officer, the union Co-chair of the Workload Committee, a member of the Bargaining Committee, and the JJE Shop Steward.

I care about the issues that affect our members because I’ve faced many of the same challenges. I am committed to advocating for you and challenging our employer on your behalf.

My goal is to improve and strengthen labour relations while continuously expanding my knowledge to better represent the needs and interests of our membership. Together, we can create a stronger, more unified organization that stands up for member’s needs. I would be honoured to have your support

Executive Officer Nominees

Katelyn Maruca

Hi! My name is Katelyn Maruca and I’ve worked for WCB as a Rehab specialist for over 8 years. As a front line employee I see first hand how the decisions of our employer both positively and negatively affect us. I have considerable experience working on professional boards as well as the bargaining committee and am invested in bringing this experience to a formal union position to promote optimal working conditions and benefits for WCB employees.

Itoro Affia

Hello members,

I am a Prevention Consultant with SAFE Work Manitoba. I am currently a shop steward with CUPE 1063. I wish to solicit your vote to become an Executive Committee Member.

I decided to become a shop steward after the job evaluation conducted by management in 2023, that affected most of us across the organization.

My objective is to advocate for equality, appropriate compensation for the services that we (workers) provide towards the success of the organization. To hold the organization accountable to our collective agreement, its own strategic goal to grow us the people and its value on integrity, caring, and collaboration. To ensure that our collective expectations on renumerations, benefits, work conditions (safety and health), and psychological wellbeing are properly addressed at all times.

I have sat in on a few work-related reviews up on request, to support union members. I have used references in our collective agreement and organizational policies to advocate for members to ensure that they receive results that are beneficial to everyone.

I am committed to serve you and our union ethically and professionally. Thank you for your anticipated support.

Kind regards,
Itoro Affia
